Just adding this classic to my bookshelf. Already have Google Play copy on my tablet and audio CD version as well. I find that Swift's depiction of humans as Yahoos, written in the mid seventeen hundreds, still seems relevant in today's world.Hardly illustrated. The fact that it is advertised as being illustrated is misleading. I would not have bought this version had I known that it had very few illustrations.This "book" is an incredibly short summary of the actual Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, but it is absolutely not the real book. It also does not indicate anywhere that it is a summary, rather than the original work by Swift. Avoid purchasing the paperback version of this until Amazon can remove the fake variant.Wonderful book. Great condition and my granddaughter absolutely loved the personal note included in the book. Thank you Jareth!Purchased for school requirementGreatEven if you are an adult and have never read Gulliver's Travels, I recommend this, another of the excellent Real Reads Books. This story by Jonathan Swift is retold here by Tony Evans and Illustrated by Katy Elphinstone. Evans does a very good job of abbreviating the storyline but keeping all the adventures of this Lemuel Gulliver, a ship's surgeon and world traveler, in tact and full of surprises. The many fanciful places he lands in unintentionally each reveal a lot about humankind to him through what he learns from each of the unusual inhabitants of the various islands. Without sounding preachy, a lot of lessons are learned about the foibles of Western society as it has been for centuries in Europe, with wars, cruelty, killing, taking from others. The reader is left to deduce his or her own lessons from the encounters and messages of each place. Te illustrations are really good, and with all Real Reads Books, the characters are introduced visually and verbally in the first two pages, so even young readers can keep them straight. The illustrations do a good job of picturing the events in the story. And the thoughtful teaching questions and discussions at the end of the book are handy for parents and classrooms.
